Diamonds Are A Floor’s Best Friend

At Concrete Grind & Polish, we use diamond polishing to create concrete floors that are beautiful features in an increasing number of New Zealand homes and businesses. However, there is still some wariness from certain sections of the population about concrete as a flooring surface. Many of those people are old enough to remember the “bad old days” of concrete floors when they were coated with old-fashioned and largely ineffective soft sealer coatings such as acrylics, epoxies and polyurethane. These older (and outdated) coating systems are prone to failure and for these reasons, we understand why some people are reluctant to invest in concrete floors.

As an example, polyurethane generally does not bond well into the particle surface of concrete, the integrity of the coating is highly compromised when exposed to UV, and it often suffers from moisture delamination, when the coat basically comes away from the surface and causes extremely unsightly bubbling and blistering. When these things happen, it’s no surprise that concrete floors have a bad name with some people! If you’re one of those people, here is proof that concrete floors have come a long, long way and are now worthy of your consideration.

Our Grind and Polish system (also known as “Diamond Polished Concrete”) grinds the concrete back to achieve the desired stone exposure levels. After grinding, the concrete is hardened with a densifier that reacts with the cement, hardens and increases the surface strength of the concrete. The surface is then “Honed” or “Polished” to achieve the desired sheen or gloss, and then sealed with a penetrating sealer to protect it from stains and migration of water into the surface of the concrete. After sealing, the surface is burnished to remove any surface contamination.

No polyurethane, acrylics or epoxies in sight. Just absolutely sensational floors that will stand the test of time and stay looking beautiful. Our diamond polishing takes concrete flooring to a whole new level so if you’re having second thoughts about this flooring surface based on what you’ve seen in the past – well, we ask you to think again! When it comes to concrete, diamonds are a floor’s best friend. Contact us to find out more about why the concrete floors of today are a far cry from those of yesteryear.
